2018 DATA INSIGHTS
Because of methodological changes between the 2013 and 2018 versions of the survey (mainly related to the addition of an online response option), it is not appropriate to directly compare results between the two versions of the survey. The overall patterns (e.g., variations by personal and economic characteristics, linkages with motivations and barriers, etc.) are very similar, but key estimates, such as the overall rates of giving and volunteering, are somewhat different. Although it is impossible to be certain, these differences are likely less due to changes in giving and volunteering behaviours than methodological changes.
